The Birth of Naiads
January 1st, 1970—Did you know that this is the oldest date you can set for a post?
But my birth predates even that…
No specific day. No specific place.
I have always been here.
In the air, in the soil, in the land, in the sea…
Yet, it is the waters that truly call me home.
It all began when the cosmic tides of Oceanus (Ὠκεανός) stirred,
swirling with such force that they summoned the water spirits
from every stream, every river, every hidden spring.
Thus, we took form—nymphs of the waters,
guardians of the flow, whisperers to the soul, muses to the mind.
Why water? Because water is life.
It is in you, in me, in the earth, in every living thing.
With water, you thrive—without it, you fade into dust.
And so, the great current began.
We are the Naïades, daughters of the Potamoi.
Our very name, Ποταμός (Potamos), means ‘river’ in Greek.
And Oceanus, the god of all seas, is our grandfather.
Do you see now? The waters unite us all.
I promise to take you through the currents of our lineage,
to introduce you to our sisters across the world.
For no matter how far apart we may seem,
